Construction of Sports Pavilion & Car Park at Bamber Bridge Leisure Centre

Overview

The design and build of a  fully-accessible single-story sports pavilion to the south west of the existing Leisure Centre serving both the new artificial pitches and the existing Withy Grove play area. This included four new team changing rooms with showers and separate accessible changing facilities as well as a changing room for officials.

The 4G pitches and the play area will both be visible from a spectator canopy, while the pavilion will also boast a social room with a kitchen as well as a number of storage rooms.

Construction details

Site clearance to remove vegetation and existing bunded areas, excavation and stockpiling of materials to use in re-contouring and landscaping the site after construction.  The building was Design and Build using Traditional masonry cavity walls with exposed finishes including brickwork, render and Rock panel panelling. Roof construction was built up steel, with aluminium windows and external door, internal walls were painted blockwork or tiling, floor finishings were vinyl or tiled, sanitary fittings, Mechanical and Electrical Installations, External works including car park amends and the planting of over 120 trees to enhance the environmental sustainability of the area.

Challenges

Seasonal issues, such as ground conditions including a high water table and the site directly bordered a large Children’s playground requiring attention to site boundaries and site traffic at all times.

Health and Safety

The project was completed without RIDDOR accidents and there were no injuries to report during the entire construction process.
