Grade 2 listed building required extensive external repairs and refurbishment, we undertook works to all original sliding slash windows, waterproofing and repointing to the external envelope.

Joints and beds to the stonework, feature finials were repaired and some required hand carved replacements, original cast metal balustrading was repaired or re-cast to ensure continuity with the original features, hidden perimeter trough gullies we’re cleared and repaired prior to waterproofing and square section rainwater pipes made 6 miles away in Halifax were installed to replace the previously installed plastic versions.

The work had to be undertaken at high-level while the Library was fully operational during the entire project, this required bridging scaffolding over the Library entrance and for us to carefully control the risks by liaising daily with the staff. We had to work closely with the building users during the refurbishment works as each window had to be taken out and refurbished including , beading, weights, glass and ironmongery all while the public had access to the building.
